Reminders of How America Copes

East Central MA -  Leading up to Independence Day and the pinnacle of summer citizens in East Central Massachusetts will undoubtedly consider the times as well as our freedoms. 

The National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, PA uses social media as the museum’s outreach beyond borders.  Among the museum’s educational resources is this video on the story of the people; one which makes you compare past and present.

Mass Gov Pushes Citizen Forums

Boston, MA – Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick schedules summer citizen forums.  He has just one day left, Friday, June 5, 2009, for his online community forum.  Patrick’s office notes the meeting schedule for the on site summer forums still has to be completed.  The Governor’s office asks for questions and forum meeting requests at this email address grassroots.governance@state.ma.us.

Governor Patrick’s next forum is Sunday, June 7, 2009 in Randolph.

Citizens in ECM Country have one more day to get Patrick or his staff’s attention online as discussed in the video.

As you plan your summer and which meeting with the Governor or his representative you will attend you might want to consider some rules for town type meetings.  Mass Secretary of State William Galvin publishes a complete set of rules for town meetings.  Galvin’s Citizen Information Service produced the sort “frequently asked questions” page.

US Citizenship Requirements

East Central MA -  Could you become a citizen of the United States if you were not born here?  And if you weren’t are you ready to consider what is expected of Americans?

East Central Massachusetts News promotes citizenship and pondered the question of what it is expected of us in the United States and ECM Country.

The US Citizen and Immigration Service presents a long and boring multi-media offering on “Becoming a U.S. Citizen: An Overview of the Naturalization Process.”  If you were born elsewhere you must live in the United States five years before applying for citizenship or if you married an American three years.

USCIS offers a list of study resources.  On the list is the Citizens Almanac.  What every American is expected to know.

Six Egg Producers in ECM Country

East Central MA – The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources lists merely six egg producers in Middlesex and Worcester counties.

The egg nutrition center claims less than three-hundred million hens lay 60-billion eggs each year in the United States.

enc offers egg trivia and nutrition information.  The Bay State is a closer to the bottom in egg American production with only six producers.  The United Egg Producers cites the American Egg Board stats of just over one million egg layers in the US.

Buying local produce underpins the local economy.  East Central Massachusetts News helps you find the six ECM Country egg producers with a Google Zeemaps.

Former Mass House Speaker Charged As Corrupt

Boston, MA – He makes the third former speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives to be indicted on criminal charges in the last two decades.  Sal DiMasi and three associates charged by the United States government with taking kickbacks from a software vendor for the Bay State.  DiMasi and lawyer explain to New England Cable News he “is accused of earning a living”.

Citizenship Bottom Up in US

East Central MA – The United States is a nation of the people and citizenship is how choices flow up.  President Barack Obama like other savvy young elected officials and politicians deploys social media to gather street level input.

The nation’s and ECM Country’s Chief Executive’s appeal for citizenship.

The president promises “a new tool on WhiteHouse.gov, "Open for Questions," which will allow you to submit your questions on the economy and vote on those submitted by others.”  Not so today at WhiteHouse.gov.  The town hall meeting Mr. Obama refers to was months ago but you can still leave your opinions at link to the White House.

Getting Ready to Fish in ECM Country

East Central MA – Citizens in East Central Massachusetts have been heading out to favorite fishing holes for weeks now.  It’s National Fishing Week and in ECM Country you have to be legal to cast a line in the waters.  The Bay States Department of Fish and Game is where you get what you need.

There are a number of sources to locate water holes.  The state Department of Conservation and Recreation lists fishing spots by Bay State region.

Going Outside lists every lake in the United States and by county for Massachusetts. ECM Country takes in Middlesex and Worcester counties.

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife has a map of all outdoor recreation in the Bay State.  ECM News compiled a map of state parks in ECM Country and here it is a again.

The DFG publishes Massachusetts Wildlife Magazine and in a now unpublished but relevant issue from 2000 presents a special on fishing in ECM Country.  Here’s the issue and you can get it here as well.
