East Central MA – July 4th, Independence Day in the United States of America and it’s a long weekend for many citizens.  

Let’s reflect on the meaning of the holiday which America.gov describes as a social event as well as historic.   And USA.gov gives you an overload of information on Independence Day.

Get out and enjoy places your tax dollars support and we vowed to enjoy for years to come.  East Central Massachusetts News has three maps with locations to guide you to some sun and pleasure in ECM Country.  Let’s begin with state parks. Pick the closest to you or the one of your choice.

The Bay State, besides honor as one of the original 13 states of the nation, is a resource to many National Parks.  ECM News is proud to present this map for the first time.  Zoom in and out on the map until you find a nearby park or one of interest.

Fireworks will be missed in some East Central Massachusetts towns this year.  Still there are many fireworks shows  held across the state.  Here’s a listing of sites with locations and times.

ECM Country US Birthday Weekend

East Central MA – It is a long holiday weekend in America and in East Central Massachusetts we’ll all reflect on what it means to be a citizen of these United States.  Take a few moments with ECMNooz YouTube and consider the meaning of July 4th, Independence Day.

Latest Jobless Numbers in United States

Washington, DC – The Department of Labor reports 16,000 fewer American citizens ask for unemployment insurance.  Still more than a half-million people, 630-thousand Americans, require help to survive the economic contraction.  These numbers Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick often cites as the greatest in decades.

The Bay State avoids distinction of being among states with increases of more than one thousand workers losing pay checks.  In our great state 150-thousand citizens sought unemployment help last week, less than the previous week.  Over 22-hundred fewer Bay State citizens filed jobless insurance claims than did before June 20th. 

Massachusetts Labor and Workforce Development employment and jobless reports lag behind those from the US DOL.

The Associated Press hears Maury Hanigan, Layoff Coach, say numbers are misleading in regard to what employers plan.

When seeking jobless assistance in Massachusetts start with the Division of Unemployment Assistance.

Mitt Romney Still In Race

East Central Massachusetts News presents New England Cable News’ report on Governor Deval Patrick and Romney at the State House during the portrait revealing.

Citizens Romney says he has “fire” to run for President in 2012 and a check of his web site and Facebook page tells the story about his plans.  A Fox News Channel interview with Romney has the former Bay State Chief Executive taking on the nations current Chief Executive over health care reform, President Obama’s latest legislative push.

Mass Sales Tax Rises with Reform

Boston, MA – Massachusetts Democratic Governor Deval Patrick is reported to sign a state sales tax hike that will cost ECM Country citizens 25-per cent more on taxed purchases.

The sales tax increase is part of a more than 27-(b) billion dollar budget state lawmakers approved.

Massachusetts Fifth District United States Representative to the House

East Central MA – Nikki Tsongas represents ECM Country in the House of Representatives of the United States Congress.  She is a Democrat.

A “Congress On Your Corner” meeting with Tsongas at Shaw’s Supermarket on Boston Road in Groton, June 20, 2009 was the first chance ECM News lens captured a close up view of how our representative handles her constituents.

If the phone call I received as a voter last week is an indication I’m still searching for the audio recording of a live town meeting Tsongas said I missed but I really failed to hear about in one of those calls.  The voicemail directed me to the Congresswoman’s official Internet address but I was unable to devote time needed to find the all important town meeting she recommends I listen.

Still waiting to see a report on Groton town meeting of which ECMNooz YouTube Video  takes a satirical review.
