American Citizenship Refresher

Since the time I a took a civics lesson the world evolved tremendously.  One of the first assignments in citizenship was a trip to the library where knowledge of government and other collections of subjects are held.  So let’s begin our refresher with the United States Library of Congress.

The LOC’s Thomas is, as their site puts it, carried out in the spirit of Thomas Jefferson.  Thomas is where you find legislative information.  At the top of the page current is the Stimulus and Homeowner rescue legislation.  It’s a good way to keep up citizen.

Need to know something about the background of the people citizens elected to represent them check out the Biographical Directory of the United States Congress.  Learn how those elected or wish to be chosen to govern should behave at the Federal Elections Commission

Our US Senate has a How To guide.  Get information on treaties, laws, records, and votes to list a few.  The elite chamber of Congress even offers a Reference Desk for citizens.

Congress has a different offering of services for citizens.  Find your representative by your zip code there.  And then learn more about them and related legislation by following links on the site.

In ECM Country let’s start with the Massachusetts Secretary of State and Secretary William Galvin’s Citizen Information Service.  Follow up with the official state government site. Get a local on demand version of of CSPAN online for ECM Country at the Mass legislature’s video archive of sessions.  Governor Deval Patrick’s site provides guidelines on lawmaking in our great state.

Gov. Patrick , as well as the Secretary of State, offer links to find your specific elected representatives.  Find directions on taking part in government.  The basics come right down to the Galvin’s guide for town meetings.

The Secretary even welcomes citizens to the Bay State with a guide for living here

Get involved citizen. Click the comments link below. What say you about the civics refresher? It’s about you.

Watch ECMNooz YouTube Video Channel in a permanent viewer on the left or check out ECMNooz YouTube Video players to cycle through a collection of videos on our ECMNooz YouTube Video Channel inside posts.

Coming next week, more ways for citizen and business to contribute.
